Texas Cowboy Hall of Fame Hosts "A Gathering of Friends"

April 21, 2003

Fort Worth Stockyards. On Saturday, April 26, 2003, the Texas Cowboy Hall of Fame (and Holt & Jo Hickman) will host a reception for The Sterquell Family and Friends.

U.C. "Sterk" Sterquell of Amarillo spent thirty years acquiring the 65 wagons, carriages and sleighs which make up the "Sterquell Collection." This impressive exhibit is part of the permanent collection at the Texas Cowboy Hall of Fame in the Stockyards National Historic District.

"We are pleased to spotlight this collection of horse-drawn vehicles dating from the early 1900s," says museum Executive Director Ann Bastable. "We also wanted to honor the man responsible for their rescue and restoration." Mr. Sterquell passed away eight years ago and his widow Betty Sterquell searched for a permanent home for the collection. She wanted the collection to retain the Sterquell name, remain intact- in Texas. She accomplished all three goals when Jo & Holt Hickman acquired the wagons to feature in the Texas Cowboy Hall of Fame.

Mrs. Sterquell will attend the "Gathering of Friends" on Saturday, along with her children (Vicki Sterquell of Houston; John C. Sterquell of Dallas, and Steve W. Sterquell of Amarillo).
Also scheduled to attend are: Texas State Comptroller Carol Keeton Strayhorn and Lt. Col. Paul Lockhart, NASA, Houston.

The reception from 2-4 pm is private, invitation only.

The museum will be open to the public from 10:00 am to 7:00 pm.
Admission: Adults, $4
Seniors 60 +, $3
Children 3-12, $2
